Sit on top kayaking is a fantastic and a much easier way than sea kayaking to get out onto the sea and exploring. Angelsey has some of the most enjoyable, rewarding and exciting coastline in the UK.
However, it also has the potential to be some of the most demanding in terms of skill, not only on the water but in your planning and decision making on where to go on any particular day.
On and off shore wides, tides, swell, fetch, launching, rocky coastline, self rescue in deep water are all major considetrations in order to keep you safe.
Do you own a sit on top kayak and need some introduction skills and safety training thus, enabling you to go on the water knowing you’re good to go. If so this is the course for you
The sessions will look at the following
- Tides, swell and their impact on your choice of venue and skill required
- Weather and its affect on the sea conditions and your choice of venue
- Assessing weather and sea conditions
- How to get back onto the kayak in deep water
- Forward and reverse paddling
- Turning
- What to carry depending on your journey
- Coastguard and calling for help

About me
I have been kayaking on the sea for over 20 years and have extensive knowledge of the coastline on Angelsey, Llyn Peninsula and the Menai Straits. Living in the North Wales has given me the opportunity to work and play on the sea and explore the wonders of its stunning coastline.
Further afield, I have kayaked at a range of areas such as Norway, Sardina, Sweeden, South and Mid Wales, Scotland, Greece, South coast of England, Cornwell and Devon.
I am qualified Level 3 sea kayak coach and have worked with a wide range of groups coaching both sea kayaking and sit on tops. For further information visit my quality assurance page and look at paddlesport qualification. I have completed many journeys with my family on sit on tops around the Angelsey coastline and had some exciting solo ventures.
