Learn to Lead Climb
Learning to lead climb is one of the biggest and most important steps that rock climbers have to make. However, it will open up a lifetime’s worth of adventures to you.
Lead climbing requires more commitment, more skills and involves greater risk, but the rewards are returned, including the independence and an amazing sense of achievement.
This course will help you to make the transition to becoming a lead climber easier. It will take you through progressive learning stages at your own pace, and this mean you will begin to build the skills ready to head out on your own.
This course is open to any level of climber, and high levels of technical climbing skills are not expected, in fact it’s quite the opposite. When learning to lead you need to be able to approach this at your own pace within your climbing ability, and have the 1.1 support of the instructor, mastering the skills and having fun along the way.
Previous experience
This course is not an introduction to climbing and you need to have climbed outside on real rock. You must have some experience of climbing both indoors and outdoors and have an understanding of basic climbing equipment, techniques and knowledge. If you have been a 2nd outdoors and lead indoors then the course is certainly for you if you wish to take on the next challenge.
Unsure? Please contact me and I will arrange a call where we can discuss your experience. I would rather do this, so you get the most out of the course and do what is most suitable for your needs.

Single Pitch rigging skills
A single pitch cliff is where you can walk to the top of the cliff easily and then drop a rope down and no more than 40m in height. Cliffs like Stanage Edge, Bowles Rocks, Harrisions, Roachers and Upper Tier Tremadoc all fit the bill
Your focus is on visiting single pitch crags but your not ready to lead just yet. The day is focused on rigging top and bottom ropes which will allow you and your friends to climb without any leading taking palce.
All rigging is undertook on the top of the cliff with you safely attached through the whole process. We will look at belaying at the base and top of the crag.
