Climbing Wall Instructor ( CWI )
training course
The CWI qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers on any purpose-built artificial climbing wall or bouldering wall. These walls can be indoors or outdoors.
This a fantastic course and one which we cover the full syllabus in detail, and you will leave having learnt and practiced a wide range of skills. One of our main aims is for you to leave feeling motivated, confident and inspired to take the next step towards assessment.
All candidates leave with an action plan and we offer, for no extra charge, a mentoring process. This is so you can keep in touch with us to learn and ask questions you may have whilst preparing for your assessment.

The prerequisites to register on the scheme ( which can be actioned at any time prior to attending a training course ) are as follows:
- You must be at least 17 years old to attend a training course (18 at assessment)
- You should ideally have at least 6 months of experience of using a variety of climbing walls
- You should have an interest in climbing and in supervising groups on climbing walls.
Requirements to attend a training course
- You have registered with Mountain Training for the Climbing Wall Instructor Award
- Have 15 personal climbing wall sessions at any climbing wall.
- You have led 10 routes at grade Fr4 on any climbing wall
Ratios: Maximum of 1:6
Cost: £130 00 per person for the 2-day course.
Duration: 2 days ( 8 hours per day )

Abseil Module
We offer this as an extension to the training course that you attend or just attend the abseil training course on its own

Requirements to attend the assessment
- Attended a CWI training course with any provider or gained written exemption from Mountain Training not to attend a training course.
- 30 climbing wall sessions.
- 40 lead climbs in doors
- 15 sessions supervising at climbing walls
- Hold a valid first aid certificate of a minimum of 8 hours

Climbing Wall Instructor Re-assessment
Working with any age group in a climbing wall is fulfilling job, and our role is to guide you and work with you, so this becomes a reality. We endeavour to make your reassessment a successful, low stress, and enjoyable process. Let’s focus on what you need to achieve, so that you gain the award and have the pleasure of introducing people to the heights and delights of climbing walls.
The process

- We discuss the deferral, clarify any concerns and form an action plan for the re assessment.
- Undertake your re assessment
If you feel you need a combined mock assessment / training opportunity which focuses on your deferral then I can offer this as another independent session prior to the actual re-assessment.

Pre-Requisites
You must have already completed a Rock-Climbing assessment and been deferred on an area/s of the syllabus. If your uncertain, please do make an enquiry.
Cost range from £ 80- 180
Depending on what you need to be re-assessed on will structure the time involved.
However, to give you a guide a full day is charged at £180. However, you may not require a full day. This cost includes all course costs to Mountain Training Cymru and entrance fee to the climbing wall.
RCI / SPA expert assessment preparation course.
Your preparation for assessment is in progress and you have a desire to either confirm your practice, or gain an insight into developing your skill set to the required standard.
With over 30 years of running RCI training and assessment, we will steer you towards assessment with the day being totally focused on your requirements. With vast years of experience and currency working on single pitch cliffs with groups, we will give you the skills, ability and confidence to start your assessment.
Prior to the training day we will discuss your requirements and, therefore, be ready to gain the maximum of the time spent together.
Part of this cost is the ability for you to keep in touch with us, regarding any questions you may have prior to your assessment.
